Mindfulness Meditation Through The Word And The Breath

When we find equanimity within ourselves we can actively inspire and contribute towards transforming the world around us ~ Lee Strasburger
From beginners to advanced, there is no “right way” to meditate!
While many people prefer to meditate alone and in silence, it is also pleasant to be in the company of others doing the same thing together. Group meditation is also known, similar to prayer, to send more healing out to the world through the positive and loving subtle energy fields the practitioner develops.
Here we use what is called Vipassana or Insight awareness meditation that teaches you how to “see things as they are,” We train the mind through simple concentration techniques that cultivate a calm mind and body, traditionally paying attention to the breath, the sensations created in the breathing body, noting without judgement thoughts that arise and float away. The breath is the traditional anchor in the body, where you can return your concentration after it has slipped away. Jack Kornfield says the mind has no pride and indeed it wanders endlessly, for that is the nature of the mind.
For those who have difficulties with the breath, there are alternatives, such as concentrating on sensations in the feet, or the feel of your chest rising and falling, or sounds you hear. You gradually learn and become more aware that everything in life is temporary and is in continual flux. The sun rises and sets, each day a little differently. The sky is constantly changing, the bird is chirping, flowers blossom, seasons change, everything changes, the galaxy expands, stars come and go, just like the breath and our thoughts.
In addition to free community meditations, in line with the Buddhist tradition where no-one is turned away, donations of $5.00 or more are most welcome, to contribute in making this possible. To make a donation, click on the button at the bottom of this page.
Community events do not require advance booking. At the moment, there is one community meditation each week (excluding holidays), on Friday at 12:30 pm EDT/USA. From January 2027, we will be having two community meditations each week (excluding holidays), on Tuesday at 2:30 pm EDT/USA.

Meditation classes last approximately half an hour and are held via Zoom. The room opens 10 minutes before each class, which starts promptly. At the end of the meditation, the room stays open for a few minutes for a general discussion.
Please read the Group Commitment Guidelines before signing up for a Meditation.
I offer two types of paid private one-on-one meditations. You have the choice of booking a straightforward half hour session for $80. If you wish for meditation around a specific issue (such as physical pain, emotional pain, bereavement), there are meditation techniques that we can use. The cost for this is $125. I must know in advance what issue we are addressing, so that I have time to prepare. However, to be clear, while it is scientifically known that meditation can help with many physical and emotional conditions, I am not a therapist or physician, and this meditation is supplementary to any treatment you are receiving. For any emergency, call your doctor or hospital. There are some open slots on the booking calendar. If these dates are not suitable, please contact me. Bookings are required to be made no later than the day before.
For private curated group meditations for two people or more (friends/businesses and special events, for example), contact me.
This is an international and respectful gathering that varies in size from week to week and has been quite intimate. All are welcome into the shelter and safety of this meditation space.
